CEBU, Philippines - The man who killed another man who ran amok in the northern town of San Remigio last Sunday surrendered to the Capitol Security Office yesterday.
Macky Ecarma, 30, a resident of Barangay Luyang, turned himself over to Capitol’s Chief of Security Loy Anthony Madrigal and confessed he killed the victim, identified only as “Turnos,” by stabbing him in the neck and hitting his head five times.
Ecarma said the victim was drunk at that time and was allegedly threatened with a knife the people he encountered in the street.
Ecarma said “Turnos” was about to attack him so he grabbed the victim’s knife and the two of them wrestled for it. When “Turnos” fell to the ground, Ecarma said he picked a stone and hit the victim in the head five times, but “Turnos” reportedly attempted to hit him back so he was forced to stab him in the leg.
“Paglabay nako duol niya, mihana siyag dunggab. Desidido man gyod siya modunggab nako. Nag-inilogay mi sa kutsilyo,” Ecarma told reporters.
He said what he did was self-defense.
“Naniguro na lang ko daan kay moilog na pod siya’s kutsilyo… mao to akong gihansakan kausa iyang liog,” Ecarma added.
He said he immediately fled the area aboard a truck.
He eventually decided to surrender because his conscience bothered him.
Ecarma said it was his uncle who suggested that he surrender to the Capitol security for safety reasons.
Madrigal turned Ecarma over to the San Remigio Police Station yesterday afternoon.
SPO1 Joejohn Nnesky told The Freeman that based on testimony of witnesses, Ecarma was reportedly with six other men at the time of the incident and one of them was already arrested.
Ecarma and his companions were reportedly drinking at that time when they saw Turnos threatening the people who passed by him.
Murder and attempted murder charges will be filed against the suspects today before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. (FREEMAN)
