Kamagayan folk want money to rebuild houses

CEBU, Philippines - Thirty-seven families in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City on the verge of losing their houses are asking the city to give them financial support.

In a letter dated August 14, 2014, Marifi Maristela, president of the Sitio Santo Niño, Barangay Kamagayan Homeowners Association said they would need money to rebuild their houses. 

The homeowners group is said to be accredited by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor.

Maristela’s family and 36 others have been ordered to vacate their premises near D. Jakosalem Street through a notice issued by Sheriff III Lloyd Tagalog of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities.

The ejectment case was filed by Lucila Kimseng, Jennie Humes and Francis Kimseng.

Maristela said they have received a writ of exe-cution with an order to vacate the premises in question within five days.

Last Wednesday, the City Council referred the group’s request to the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor and the Department of Social Welfare Services to determine if the city can heed the request and to determine further the kind of assistance that can be given to the families, if any.

The other affected families are those of Susan Orque, Remedios Cuico, Antonio Roxas, Susana Delantar, Rolito Paller, Armando Tulda, Gemma Sarmiento, George Villamor, Diosdado Mondigo (deceased), Jessie Bernal, Angelina Solon, Jemenico Cuevas, Lydia Solon, Catalina Manila, Jesril Panuncialman, Norma Palagtiosa/Miguela Palagtiosa, Marcelo Alibay Sr., Gregorio Batoon, Julio Tulda, Jocelyn Flores, Simplicia Estopa, Lucresia Godinez, Sacariaz Godinez, Charina Bayno, Ruth Palagtiosa, Ernesto Maristela, Letecia Wenceslao, Karen Wenceslao, Ann Mary Rendon, Glecerio Villarin, Bonie Bantilan, Joan Rodriguez, Marcelo Alibay Jr., Rhea Villaro, Lanie Roxas and Joan Roxas.  (FREEMAN)
