CEBU, Philippines - Members of Cebu’s “Lumad Basakanon” are representing the country in the Asian Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“Ang Lumad Basakanon is now in Indonesia, representing the Philippines sa Asian Pacific Festival,” confirmed George Rama, barangay captain of Basak, San Nicolas.

The group represented the barangay in the Sinulog Festival.

Rama said the group sent 15 dancers to perform the Sinulog Festival of Cebu. The dancers flew to Indonesia last Wednesday with all expenses paid for by the Indonesian government.

Last April 26, the group claimed yet again the championship trophy for street dancing at the Aliwan Festival, besting 17 other contingents from across the Philippines.

He disclosed that the group also received an invitation to perform in Singapore this November but has yet to make a decision, considering that the fourth quarter is when it practices for the Sinulog in January.

Niño, basta palargahon rapod mi next year sa Aliwan para maka-defend sa among title,” Rama said.

In the recent Sinulog, the Lumad Basakanon earned the grand prizes in the Free Interpretation Category and the Street Dancing Category, respectively. —  /JMO (FREEMAN)
