CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes has deferred his approval to the appointment of a new president of the city college pending consultation with the Civil Service Commission after learning that the candidate is holding two other positions.
Delos Reyes said he does not mind even if the next appointee is identified with the opposition for as long as he gets the confirmation of the CSC.
“Wa lang sa ko nipirma sa appointment kay gi-clarify lang sa namo kay siya kuno consultant sa (University of the Visayas), which ang reality gyud, full-time gyud siya, dean pa gani. Ako lang sa gipa-verify kay masikwate unya ta,” de los Reyes told The FREEMAN.
Last month, the members of the board of trustees of the Talisay City College appointed Engineer Gamalier Vicente as the new college president. But the mayor refused to sign his appointment until he is sure that everything is legal considering that Vicente is allegedly the dean of the College of Engineering of UV.
Delos Reyes said Vicente claimed to be a consultant of UV, but based on his own information the latter is actually the dean of the College of Engineering. Vicente is also the acting city engineer of Talisay.
“Og ma-presidente na siya sa TCC, tulo na unya iyang position. Di kaha siya maglisud ana?” de los Reyes asked.
De los Reyes, however, said he would not oppose it if the CSC would allow it. De los Reyes has already sent a letter to the CSC three weeks ago to ask for an opinion but has not received a reply as of yesterday.
For the mean time, de los Reyes acts as the college president being the chairman of the board of trustees. (FREEMAN)
