CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old call center worker dropped to his death at a building at the IT Park past midnight Saturday.
If the note Ernie Antigua Jr. left on his Facebook account is given credit, what appeared to be a suicide was triggered by a failed romance.
“Problema sa uyab ang kasagarang nakasuwat sa iyang note,” said PO1 Rey Cuyos, the lead investigator in the case.
Investigation revealed that Antigua jumped from the roof deck of the 12-story I2 and hit first on the marquee before landing on the ground floor right at the building’s main entrance. The call center where he worked with holds office at the same building.
Dacua said Antigua, a resident of Mandaue City, died from suffered severe “injuries in his head, body and extremities” due to the impact of the fall. Authorities received the alarm at 12:12 a.m.
People at the commercial establishments at the building’s ground floor rushed out after hearing two loud thuds only to see Antigua already sprawled lifeless on the concrete floor.
Investigation revealed further that Antigua posted as a Facebook status message what is believed to be a suicide note just minutes before the incident.
In the note, he blamed a girl for breaking his heart and said sorry to his family and friends for failing them. He said he could not accept that his former girlfriend left him for another man.
“Gi buwagan ko nia for no reason and I just find out nga naa d i cia lain guy (sic),” the Facebook post reads.
“To my papa and mama sorry if I fail you because of just one girl named (name purposely omitted), she may not be rightful for me but I loved her so much and I can’t accept the fact the she left me (sic),” the note reads further.
Antigua asked his sister to take care of their parents and told his friends, “sorry for the mess”.
“Good bye everyone and I will never forget the friendship and everything that you had given to me,” the post reads.
While saying that what his ex-girlfriend did to him was what made him end his life, Antigua asked that his friends and family not blame the girl because it was him who could not move on.
Ironically, Antigua plunged to his death almost a year after he received a certificate from an adventure park for conquering “The Plunge,” which certified his achievement in “fear management.” — /JMO (FREEMAN)
