Kenyan nabbed for “raping” woman
CEBU, Philippines - A Kenyan national was arrested yesterday by police for allegedly raping a woman in a subdivision in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City.
Eliud Kiplimo Lelei, 23, was arrested in a hot pursuit operation following the complaint of a 22-year-old cable television provider agent (name being withheld considering the nature of the case).
Mabolo Police Station chief Senior Inspector Hartzel Peter Bellido, in an interview, said that according to the woman, the Kenyan national applied for an additional cable TV channels and wanted to meet her in his house.
She allegedly heeded and met him, but the foreigner allegedly raped her instead.
The victim showed a medical report that allegedly shows that she was indeed raped, but Bellido said he cannot comment on it because he is not the proper authority.
The suspect denied the allegations, saying that he met the victim at IT Park three weeks ago where the woman allegedly introduced herself to him.
After that, they met several times including the day when the victim claimed to have been raped by the suspect.
Bellido said that Lelei told them that after few meetings, the victim started to ask money from him, saying she needed it for her child’s hospitalization.
The suspect gave the victim money and it was repeated for a few times, Bellido further said.
In a report over TV Patrol, Lelei showed text messages allegedly sent by the victim asking for money in exchange for sex.
Mabolo police learned that the Kenyan national was previously charged with rape.
The suspect is currently detained at Mabolo Police Station while a rape case will be filed against him today. — (FREEMAN)
