CEBU, Philippines - The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council  and Cebu City Police Office  have come up with a joint project dubbed as the “Crime Prevention Summit” to help address the series of crimes recently reported in the city.

Cebu City Acting Mayor Edgardo Labella said that the topic to be discussed by CCPO would help give the participants a sense of urgency in crime prevention and alertness during crimes.

Invited participants are representatives from various sectors in the academe, barangays, among others.

Labella, who chairs PCAC, said that the summit would generate comprehensive analysis evaluation and assessment from crime prevention, adding that the involvement of different sectors would be of great help.

“Crime prevention is not just the job of the police but the entire community that should be involved, the parents, teachers, schools, academe, and of course the government,” he said.

One of the topics of the summit would be “The Police in our Communities” that would impart more information to participants about the ideal ratio of the police and police stations stations to the population in barangays to create a sense of urgency and awareness against crimes.

Subtopics under this would be the police mandate, breakdown of crimes in Cebu City, victim profiles, crime situations, police station mapping, and police programs needing community involvement.

Crime prevention measures will also be presented, alongside with how to protect oneself, property, and how to report a crime.

Other topics to be discussed would be on securing one’s home and belongings, reducing risks of burglary, safety tips on streets, commuter safety, safety in commercial centers, drug situations and ill effects of drugs, current drug trends, among others.

The tentative schedule of the summit is set on October 23, 30 and November 6 to 7, 2014. (FREEMAN)
