Delivery truck hits woman in Bogo
CEBU, Philippines - A woman died after she was hit by a speeding delivery truck while crossing the national highway of Barangay Dakit, Bogo City yesterday morning.
Pevida Fernan, 43, of Barangay Libertad, suffered massive injuries on different parts of her body. She was rushed to the Bogo Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Romeo Gaviola, 38, of Barangay Pooc, Talisay City, the driver of the truck is now detained at the Bogo City Police Station.
Police said Gaviola was bound for San Remigio town.
The truck, owned by Afugao Corporation, was supposed to transport gelatin goods to a store in San Remigio that day.
PO3 Olan Alico, desk officer, said that Fernan alighted from the tricycle she was riding and immediately crossed the road and failed to notice the incoming vehicle.
“Mao pay pagnaog niya unya nakalabang na sa pikas lane diin to ang delivery truck unya wala siguro makaklaro sa sakyanan mao to,” Alico said in a phone interview.
Fernan was reportedly seated behind the tricycle driver which made her immediately cross the road after she alighted.
Residents said that Alico was traveling at a high speed and failed to step on the brakes when Fernan crossed the road.
Police are now waiting for the family of Fernan to appear at the police station for the possible filing of charges or an amicable settlement. (FREEMAN)
