Lesser cops facing admin raps during first 7 months this year

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The number of policemen facing administrative charges in Cebu Province has dropped by over 75 percent within the first seven months this year compared to the same period last year.

The records at the Provincial Investigation and Detective management Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office show that only 16 policemen were administratively charged from January to July this year. The number has significantly dropped from 66 policemen during the same period last year.

All of those charged were non-commissioned police officers or those that ranked Police Officer 1 to Senior Police Officer 4.

Out of the 16 investigated, only seven were recommended to face a formal complaint for grave misconduct. Four were facing simple neglect of duty, three for serious neglect of duty, and two were charged with less neglect of duty.

Most of the cases were forwarded to the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division for summary hearing.

PIDMB investigator said most of the offenses stemmed from the policemen’s failure to report in an assignment like checkpoint operations, said PIDMB investigator PO3 Joel Deiparine.

Deiparine said that policemen assigned in CPPO are now very careful because PIDMB is immediately acting on any reports of violation.

“Makaingon gyud sila ba nga himuan gyud ug aksyon kung makasala sila maong mag-amping na gyud sila,” Deiparine said. (FREEMAN)
