CITOM denies USC request to use part of Gov Cuenco Ave

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management has denied the request of the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus to utilize one-meter part of Governor Cuenco Avenue as passageway for students.

CITOM operations chief Joy Tumulak said USC-TC property administrator Marvin Gaerlan called yesterday regarding their request following observations that some students still pass along the cordoned sidewalk of the school, which for him poses harm to the students.

“Niingon gyod ko og ‘no’, dili gyod mahimo kay mosamot man gud ka gamay ang dalan,” Tumulak said.

The school has earlier decided to give way part of its property and take initiative to help address the traffic congestion along Gov. Cuenco Ave.

USC-TC spokesperson Cerwin Eviota said a working student of Gaerlan was allegedly hit by a motorcycle’s side mirror, which prompted the property administrator to request such.

Eviota said USC did not regret its decision to set back its perimeter, eventhough CITOM denied the request.

P.B. Obial Construction, the contractor, has also vowed to make the demolition faster, he said.

He further said that the Student’s Affairs Office and the security department have been tasked already to oversee the security of the students.

“We also instructed our students to be extra careful and just bear with the inconvenience. Naa man gyo’y inconvenience, but we have to sacrifice kay para ra pod ni sa kadaghanan,” he said.

“Nihatag na ta og instructions sa atong enforcers. Ang mga enforcers nga naa sa area, ilang priority ang mga sakyanan nga ma-manage nila pero kon dili sad sila busy, mao sad ang mamadlong sa mga estudyante,” Tumulak also said.

The CITOM official also asked USC to have an internal information drive for the awareness of the students and staff, which Eviota agreed to. — (FREEMAN)
