NSO workshop expects 2,000 attendees

CEBU, Philippines - Around 2,000 participants are expected to join the “7th National Workshop on Civil Registration” of the Philippine Statistics Authority-7 (formerly National Statistics Office) at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City this coming August 5 to 7.

With a theme, “Ikaw at Ako Tungo sa Wastong Pagrerehistro,” the event aims to provide a venue for exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences for the city and municipal registrars, mayors, members of the judiciary and other stakeholders.

PSA-7 regional director Ariel Florendo said in a statement that notable personalities and officials from both national and international organizations will grace the occasion as resource speakers including Health secretary Enrique Ona and assistant secretary Eric Tayag, representatives from the World Health Organization and the University of the Philippines.

Among the relevant topics that will be tackled include the importance of civil registration to our development, partners’ role of civil registration on health, experiences on the implementation of RA 9048 and RA 10172 and other special laws and the value added services being offered by the said government agency.

RA 9048 is known as an “Act Authorizing the city or municipal civil registrar or the consul general to correct a clerical or typographical error in an entry and/or change of first name or nickname in the Civil Register without need of a judicial order, amending for this purpose Articles 376 and 412 of the Civil Code of the Philippines.”

Further, RA 10172 is known as “An Act Further Authorizing the City or Municipal Civil Registrar or the Consul General to Correct Clerical or Typographical Errors in the Day and Month in the Date of Birth or Sex of a Person Appearing in the Civil Register Without Need of a Judicial Order Amending for this Purpose Republic Act Numbered Ninety Forty-Eight.” (FREEMAN)
