SanRem pilot site for ICT project
CEBU, Philippines - An innovative Information and Communication Technology solution that is said to fill the gaps during disaster was launched at the San Remigio Community e-Center in northern Cebu last Friday.
As the pilot area, this means San Remigio is the center for Research and Development on Movable & Deployable ICT Resource Unit in collaboration with the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Co., Japan; Central Visayas Information System; Department of Science and Technology; and the local government unit.
The technology from Japan is the first to be implemented in the Philippines, according to Engr. Edilberto L. Paradela, DOST-7 Director.
The pilot project in San Remigio was presented by Engr. Jeffrey Llanto, Executive Director of CVISNET Foundation, Inc. while the equipment and solution were presented by Dr. Toshikazu Sakano, Senior Research Engineer of NTT-NIL, Japan.
Mayor Mariano Martinez welcomed the decision to have Sen Remigio as MDRU’s venue for its pilot project. He assured to duplicate the technology to nearby municipalities and cities in northern Cebu.
Martinez said the launch of the project was timely, considering that the municipality was damaged severely by super typhoon Yolanda last November 8, 2013.
Dr. Atsusshi Takahara, executive director of NTT Network Innovations, agreed with Martinez and Cebu City Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias, president of CVISNET Foundation Inc..
The town hosts the pilot rural CeC in the Visayas, which was first established in 2004.
San Remigio CeC is one of the pilot CeC beneficiaries of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology-National Computer Center and has been in operation since 2005.
The project aims to connect the municipal hall with the barangay halls, the government hospitals, the health centers, the public schools, the municipal police office, the military detachments, the fire departments and the emergency response units along with the other LGU allied offices. (FREEMAN)
