CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board seized a total of 391 pornographic DVDs and 237 magazines containing lewd photos during separate inspections and operations in the city’s downtown area last week.
City Administrator Lucelle Mercado, CAIB chief, said no one was arrested during the operations because the vendors ran fled upon seeing the enforcers.
She said the first operation was carried out at a big mall where the magazines were confiscated.
“Murag ika-tulo na nato silang nadakpan and we advised Manila naman pud nga dili na magpadala diri,” she said.
Mercado said CAIB has been conducting random operations in bookstores in big malls in the city.
Meanwhile, the DVDs containing x-rated films were seized from stalls in Colon Street.
“Sa pagsige’g monitor nakahibaw napod ta’g asa ning mga tindahan nga namaligya lang gihapon…kining nadakpan, dili tago, naay ladlad gyud unya kahibaw naman sila nga naa mi, nagdinaganay,” she said.
“Mga tag-iya, wala gyud ta’y nakit-an, tanan, wala’y tindero, nanagan. Kahibaw na raba ta nila nga ilis-ilis ra ba gyud na sila og ngalan,” she added.
Magazines, tabloids, and DVDs containing lewd images violate Cebu City Ordinance 1408 or the Anti-Indecency Ordinance.
“Naa ta’y mga na-receive nga reports nga himo-anan gyud, pero nakadaot lang pud is that it is already outside our mandate,” Mercado said.
She urged residents in the city to avoid engaging in illegal activities, such as selling pornographic materials.
“Dili man pod sa ingon nga kuhaan nato silang panginabuhi, pero dili lang unta pod anang mamaligya og mga law-ay,” she said.
“I hope maabot sad sa buyers especially sa mga parents among message nga ma limpyo atong society especially daghan ma-affected nga youths ug children,” she added. (FREEMAN)
