CEBU, Philippines - Officials of the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority have already agreed to move back their concrete wall along Salinas Drive near the flyover in Barangay Luz to pave the way for a sidewalk.
Cebu City Legal Officer Jerone Castillo has talked with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways-7 last Thursday and was informed that TESDA has agreed to the request.
Mayor Michael Rama was happy about the development as the construction of a sidewalk may help solve the traffic congestion in the area.
At present, only one side of the Salinas Drive near the flyover has a sidewalk while the other side has none so that pedestrians reportedly risk their lives by walking on the road itself.
“Kabantay ka nga kay ang mga tawo anha man maglakaw sa karsada mapugos pagpahinay og dagan ang mga sakyanan? Kun kabutangan na og aseras diha, mopaspas na og dagan ang mga sakyanan ug dili na kaayo mag-traffic,” said Castillo.
Castillo said he does not know how the project will be implemented, but he believes that DPWH will shoulder the expenses in moving back the wall by one and a half meter and in constructing a new one.
A portion of Salinas Drive beside TESDA and near the main entrance of the nearby Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino’s usually serves as a choke point because of several vehicles going in and out towards I.T. Park and from I.T. Park towards the hotel obstructing the flow of traffic.
Rama is hoping that DPWH will immediately work on the project and help address the traffic problem in the place. (FREEMAN)
