Davide delivers “report” tomorrow

CEBU, Philippines - Everything is set for the Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III’s State of the Province Address Monday afternoon at the Capitol Session Hall.

Davide, however, wants to call what he would announce his “Report to the People.”

“The governor does not want to call it SOPA. Because it is really a report to the people on what he has done in his first year of service,” said Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera.

She said Davide’s five-star development agenda will be included in the report, which is being drafted by a team.

The development agenda is broken down into health, education, youth, gender and social protection;  food security and agriculture; economic opportunities in the countryside; environmental protection and enhancement and disaster preparedness; and creation of a participatory and comprehensive master plan.

Natera said Cebu congressmen, national agency regional directors, selected Capitol-accredited civil society groups, and mayors were invited to attend the event.

As to the security, Natera said there are enough personal guards of the governor, Capitol Civil Security Unit personnel, and Cebu Police Provincial Office operatives guarding the venue.

The Capitol also intends to set up projector screens at the different floor levels of the legislative building where the session hall is located.

San Remigio town Mayor Mariano Martinez said he has something that he wants the governor to mention in his report tomorrow.

“Being one of the municipalities affected by (the November 8 super typhoon) Yolanda, I would like to know when rehabilitation can start from proposal presented by province to national government,” he said.

Sta. Fe town in Bantayan Island also wanted the governor to discuss the completion of the airport project in the town.

“Accessibility to visit tourism destinations like Sta. Fe is the clamor of all tourists, local or foreigners. Economy at the Bantayan islands will definitely grow more with regular flights for passengers. Our wishes in Sta. Fe, aside from rehabilitation and repairs for Yolanda damage, are airport and hospital,” said Sta. Fe Mayor Jose Esgana, in a text message to The FREEMAN.

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez, on the other hand, called for equality.  (FREEMAN)
