Brgy workers positive for drugs: COSAP drug tests catch 107 so far

CEBU, Philippines - With the addition of three more barangay workers from Barangay Adlaon, the total number of barangay workers who tested positive for illegal drugs in surprise tests already reached 107.

City Office for Substance-Abuse Prevention head Alice Utlang and her personnel went to Barangay Adlaon yesterday morning to conduct a surprise drug test on 59 barangay officials and employees upon the request of Barangay Captain Elvis Narra.

Adlaon, a hinterland barangay of Cebu City situated in the north district, has 61 officials and employees but only 59 of them were subjected to drug test because the two of them were already senior citizens.

“Ang duha wala na lang iapil kay mga senior na ug ang usa gi-dialysis pa gani,” Utlang said after the drug test.

Last Wednesday, two other barangay workers in Pahina San Nicolas were also tested positive of shabu in a surprise drug test.

According to Utlang, it is up to concerned barangay officials to decide whether those employees found positive of illegal drugs will be terminated or be given the chance to reform.

The total number of barangay workers in Cebu City that had been found positive of illegal drugs already reached 107.

Of the 80 city barangays, more than 20 are still waiting for their turn for the random testing. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
