Groups strengthen presence of center for abused women

CEBU, Philippines - Private groups behind the referral center for abused women in Cebu are hoping that the victims would approach their center so that they can provide the support needed.

“I hope that after this event, everyone will get to know the place,” said Tricia Gullas, administrator of Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital, during the networking forum with multi-sectoral groups yesterday.

The forum aims to link and network the center to multi-sectoral groups and professionals to provide the needed services to victims in the area of medical, psychological, legal, temporary shelter, livelihood, spiritual, security and safety, etc.

The forum was attended by various professionals including doctors, lawyers, psychologists and some government  officials.

Among the things discussed during the forum was the prevalence of violence against women.

The outcomes and findings of the forum will be used by the organization as operational guide for the center at VGMH.

VGMH medical director Leticia Abinuman said that in their center, abused women are welcome and will be given the needed services.

The Violence Against Women Crisis Intervention and Referral Center is located at the VGMH in Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City. It was established on July 11, 2013 upon the signing of the memorandum between Zonta Club of Cebu I and VGMH owner Jose “Dodong” Gullas.

The Zonta Club Cebu I will be providing more information about the center through the social media website like Facebook. — (FREEMAN)
