CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board has urged the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority to formulate a system where items restricted aboard the airplane may be reclaimed later by the owner or his representative.
PB Members Miguel Antonio Magpale and Jude Thaddeus Sybico sponsored the resolution containing the request.
Magpale said rules and regulations pertaining to items that may be checked in or hand carried, and the thoroughness and faithfulness over which the said rules and regulations are being observed, vary from airport to airport.
“Thus, a certain prohibited item may be allowed for check in or hand carry in one airport but at the same time the exact same item may be flagged in another, the result being which a great number of items are left in the airport of departure,†he said.
Magpale also said items that passengers leave behind in their airport of departure may vary in worth ranging from those of little or no value to the precious and the sentimental.
“The Cebuano riding public patronizing our premier airport might want to later reclaim the items prohibited from being hand carried or checked in as long as possession of the same is not contrary to law,†Magpale said.
He added that it would be a privilege and of immense help and convenience to the Cebuano riding public if MCIA management would be able to formulate a system wherein items not allowed for boarding or check in may later be reclaimed by the passenger themselves upon their return or through their representatives, provided that possession of the item or items is not illegal.
