2 men dead in accidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two men died while two others were injured in separate road accidents in Cebu on Friday.

In Barangay Guiwanon, Ginatilan town, Ryan Baylan, 32, a seaman and a resident of Barangay San Roque, died after reportedly hitting his XRM motorcycle to a concrete barrier along the national highway at 6 pm.

His backrider, Eric Tugbong, 22, of Barangay Poblacion, suffered only minor injuries. Both were rushed to MJ Cuenco Memorial Medical Center in Malabuyoc town, but Baylan died of  head injuries.

Prior to the incident, both victims had a drinking session with their friends. They later agreed to go swimming in Mainit Spring in Malabuyoc but they met the accident on their way there.

Baylan was reportedly driving at a high speed when he lost control of the motorcycle.

Three hours later, a company driver also died after his motorcycle hit an Isuzu Canter along the national highway of Barangay Dunggo-an, Danao City.

Welfredo Pontemayor, 38, driver of KIMWA Construction and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Catmon, died while trisikad driver Trinidad Matugas, 58, was injured after he was hit by the motorcycle.

As per investigation, Pontemayor drove a Racal motorcycle with plate numbers 7TC-8229 while Luiz Manulat, 40, of Carmen town, drove the Isuzu Canter bearing plate numbers GRN 258.

Investigation conducted by PO1 Rommel Costan showed that the Isuzu Canter accidentally sideswiped the motorcycle, which was traveling the opposite direction.

Due to the impact, the motorcycle swerved to the right, hitting the rear portion of the trisikad of  Matugas. Both victims were thrown onto the road.

Manulat left the victims behind and surrendered to Carmen Mayor Martin Gerard Villamor, who turned him over to the police station.—  Ria Mae Y. Booc/NSA
