CEBU, Philippines - A 20-year-old farmer died after being gunned down by an unidentified assailant Saturday morning in Barangay Bulak, Dalaguete.

Ingracio Torres Quectas, a resident of the barangay, was found lying lifeless in a secluded area around 4:30am. He had gunshot wounds in the head and chest.

SPO1 Veronico Sentino, desk officer of the Dalaguete Police Station, said that a concerned citizen Felix Ostreya was about to feed his carabao when he heard four gunshots, which he just ignored.

A few minutes later, Ostreya went out of the house to feed his carabao when he saw the lifeless body of the victim sprawled on the muddy ground and in a pool of blood.

It was Ostreya who informed the barangay officials, who, in turn, reported the incident to the police station.

Police failed to recover any evidence in the scene.

“Kung revolver ang gamit wa gyuy ma-recover kay possibleng wala unya kung pistol nga klase sa armas kung naa man gani slug o empty shell maglisod kay lapukon ang lugar tunaan man,” Sentino said in a phone interview.

He added that Quectas did not have any derogatory records in the town.

Police are now investigating the case for possible identification of the gunman and to determine the real motive of the incident. — (FREEMAN)
