Police officers receive award

CEBU, Philippines - Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit director Benjamin Magalong awarded CIDG 7 director Sr. Supt. Ritchie Posadas and three other police officers with the PNP Medalya ng Kasanayan for their accomplishments in arresting wanted persons.

Magalong conferred the same PNP Efficiency Medal to Supt. Fermin Armendares III, CIDG 7 deputy chief; Insp. Teofilo Juanata, assistant intelligence officer; and SPO3 Pablo Gentallan, intelligence police non-commissioned officer.

Magalong, who earlier tagged CIDG 7 as one of the top performing regional offices nationwide, said Posadas, Armendares, Juanata, and Gentallan showed exemplary performance in the conduct of their duty.

Among the accomplishments of CIDG 7 was the arrest of high-profile Communist Party of the Philippines leaders Benito Tiamzon and his wife Wilma Tiamzon.

The couple was arrested in Aloguinsan, Cebu on March 22 through a joint operation conducted by CIDG, Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Police Regional Office 7.

CIDG 7 has also arrested 31 persons in at least 28 operations against wanted persons. Their bounty is said to be equivalent to P12.5 million.

Furthermore, the police unit has also confiscated 95 firearms and arrested 39 persons in a 33 operations. In the campaign against organized crime groups, CIDG 7 has also arrested eight persons in 6 different operations.

At present, CIDG 7 is investigating five cases of heinous and sensational crimes.

The accomplishments made an impression to the national headquarters that CIDG 7 is following the right track.

For his part, Posadas said he is glad that the CIDG director acknowledged the efforts of CIDG 7, as he committed to continue to perform their jobs well. (FREEMAN)
