CEBU, Philippines - Six houses were burned in an early morning fire which allegedly started at the kitchen of a restaurant along Junquera Extension in Barangay San Antonio, Cebu City.
Fire investigator Lowell Opolentisima said the kitchen of a ngohiong food shop caught fire at 5:56 a.m. and immediately spread to the nearby structures. It was declared under control 30 minutes later.
Ironically, the restaurant where the fire started suffered only partial damage while the adjacent structures which are mostly made of mixed concrete and light materials were reduced into ashes.
According to Opolentisima, a cook was preparing ngohiong early in the morning. The cook started heating a large frying pan and poured in cooking oil. However, the fan was engulfed by fire.
The fire department has pegged the damage at P300,000.— (FREEMAN)
