CEBU, Philippines - Hundreds of residents of Saint Upper Soton, Barangay Pangdan, Naga City are complaining about the waste disposal of a poultry dressing plant in their area.
In a letter addressed to Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, the residents asked the help of the Capitol after the company reportedly did not listen to them.
The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the company pending its release of an official statement.
The company has started its operation on September 2013 and the bad odor of its processing activities allegedly has caused distraction to the residents.
They claimed their children have been suffering nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
The residents said they saw the appearance of unwanted odor bubbles above waste tank produced every time they started to operate the machine.
“Therefore the bubbles that being produced are contained with different poisonous micro-organisms since it came from the waste tank,†they said.
There are also increasing number of flies around the area and at their homes which they feared could contaminate foods.
The company allegedly constructed foundation and soil bed of the flooring resulted to erosion along the creek.
“The natural water supply from the creek is our only source that may be affected also in the said leakage,†they further said.
The matter was already referred to the committee on environment in the Provincial Board led by PB Member Thadeo Ouano who will conduct thorough investigation on the complaint. (FREEMAN)
