Three arrested in checkpoint

CEBU, Philippines - Three men on board a motorcycle were arrested by the Cebu City police after they tried to evade a checkpoint Monday at 1:30 a.m. along N. Bacalso Avenue, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

The driver of the motorcycle, Jerwin Alemanio, 21, of Maghan-ay, Tuburan town and his two back riders Jonathan Encarguez, 47, and Anjorin Nelagoda, 18, both of Tunlob, Tuburan, attempted to evade a checkpoint by making a U-turn upon seeing the police officers.

But PO1 Zandro Tomas and PO2 Lexter Dajao were able to chase the three.

When cornered by the police, Alemanio could not present any driver’s license. Upon inspection, a pack of shabu was found from each of the back riders. A .38 caliber and an ice pick were also recovered from Nelagoda and Alemanio, respectively.

The suspects were brought to the Mambaling Police Station.

Encarguez will be facing charges for violating Sec.11 Art.2 of RA 9165 or the law on illegal possession of dangerous drugs.

Nelagoda will also be facing the same charge plus another one for violation of RA 10591 or the law on illegal possession of firearm. 

Alemanio will face charges for possessing a bladed weapon —  /ATO (FREEMAN)
