CEBU, Philippines - Three men were arrested by police in separate incidents in Cebu City, including two who were taken into custody for allegedly stabbing another person.
Amanidad Jemar, 18, of Barangay Punta Princesa was arrested by roving policemen along Ruby Street, Sta. Teresita, Barangay Tisa after he allegedly robbed and stabbed a man past 8 a.m. on Friday.
Jemar was reportedly with another man when they robbed Jafet Flores, 23, and took his cellphone.
Flores fought back though which led to the stabbing. The victim suffered injuries in different parts of his body and was later brought to the hospital for treatment.
Senior Police Officer 2 Jeffrey Diola saw the incident and immediately responded. Jemar was caught but his companion was able escape.
A matchbox reportedly containing dried marijuana leaves was recovered from Jemar. The victim’s cellphone though was not retrieved since it was with the other suspect.
Jemar is currently detained at the Cebu City Police Office pending the filing of the charges against him for robbery and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a separate incident, Anastacio Raspi Mahinay, 37, of Barangay Uling, Naga City was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife by Jolan Encabo Umambac, 38, of the same barangay.
Senior Police Officer 1 Antonio Albide of the Naga City Police Office said that Umambac stabbed the victim several times. The motive is still unknown while investigation of the case is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man tried to evade a police checkpoint of the Fuente police by jumping off a motorcycle past 10 p.m. Friday.
Charlie Zafra of Barangay Labangon was arrested after he tried to jump off from the motorcycle he was riding when Chief Inspector David Señor and his men ordered them to stop for routine check.
After jumping off from the motorcycle he ran away but Police Officer 1 Ronnie Tomaquin apprehended him.
Tomaquin asked Zafra to raise his shirt for inspection but noticed that when Zafra raised his hand, he also dropped something.
When Tomaquin picked it up, it appeared that the suspect dropped a pack of shabu.
Zafra was brought to the Fuente Police Station and will face a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — Bryner L. Diaz and Sherwin Oro Gabrinez, UP MassComm Intern/ATO (FREEMAN)
