CEBU, Philippines - A 41-year-old man was arrested after he tried to buy vegetables from a local dealer using fake money past 5 a.m. on Saturday in Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.
The vegetable vendor, Anita Aligado, performed a “citizen’s arrest†and got hold of Alan Alquiza who tried to buy vegetables she was selling using a P1,000 bill.
Four barangay tanods of Ermita then arrested Alquiza.
Police investigation revealed that Alquiza tried to negotiate with Aligado but after the latter took the P1,000 bill, she noticed that the money handed to her was fake.
She sought the help of the Barangay Tanods who responded immediately. As a standard operating procedure, the suspect was frisked and the Barangay Tanods found six P1, 000 bills, one piece of P100 bill and a US$100 bill, all of which are believed to be fake.
Alquiza, who was brought to the Carbon Police Station, will be facing a charge of violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or the “illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of creditâ€. (FREEMAN)
