CEBU, Philippines - A former bank messenger was arrested by Cebu City police in a buy-bust operation conducted in Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City, shortly after midnight yesterday.
Sotero Lorete, 31, was arrested after he sold shabu worth P2,000 to a police officer acting as a poseur buyer. After the transaction, he was immediately arrested by City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group. Also recovered from his possession were four big packs of suspected shabu, estimated to be around P200, 000 worth. CAIDSOT chief, Sr. insp. Eunil Avergonzado said that the suspect was under surveillance for two weeks’ time. “Dako ni siya; niadto pa tang Holy Week sunod ani niya,†Avergonzado said.
He said that the police are having a difficulty investigating drug personalities in the particular barangay since these personalities hire lookouts who would inform them of new faces in the area, especially those they suspect as police officers.
Avergonzado said that Lorete can dispose 200 grams of shabu every week, and his operation is concentrated mainly in Barangay Pulangbato. He was placed under tight surveillance following the arrest of Rolando Migabon, 34, alias Miado, and his runner Lito Lopez. Avergonzado further said that the drugs seized from Migabon and Miado last Wednesday wereintended for Pulangbato. The CAIDSOT chief said that Lorete used to be a bank messenger but stopped working and engaged in the illegal drug business instead.
Lorete claims he is new to the trade and only has sold shabu for two months. He also said he regretted his involvement. “Duha pako ka buwan niapil ana, dako kaayo akong pagmahay.†Lorete said. Lorete is now temporarily detained at Camp Sotero Cabahug stockade and will face a charge for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165 otherwise known as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — (FREEMAN)
