Capitol seeks help to build women and children crisis center

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Government is seeking for assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the establishment of the Cebu Provincial Women and Children Crisis Center.

The Provincial Board passed the resolution sponsored by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale requesting DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman to allocate funds for the construction of the said facility.

The provincial government recognizes women and children as two most vulnerable sectors in the society.

Magpale said incidents of abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination and the like involving women and children continues to increase in the Province of Cebu despite the existence of national and local laws preventing and penalizing the commissions of the same.

Magpale is the co-chairperson of the Provincial Women’s Commission and the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children.

She said both the PWC and the PCWC commit to uphold and promote the rights of women and children, in recognition of their roles as vital partners in nation-building.

While continuing to function in accordance with their mandates, Magpale said PWC and PCWC “are bereft of a Crisis Center that could provide ample facilities and equipments to cater to the increasing number of women and children victims of all forms of violence and abuse.

â€œWhile the provincial government has identified a viable and conducive space whereon Crisis Center can be constructed, it nevertheless lacks the needed funding to cover the cost of the construction of the said Crisis Center,” read the resolution.  (FREEMAN)
