‘Drunk’ pa disrupts Pacquiao-Bradley fight pay-per-view at Cebu Coliseum

CEBU, Philippines - An allegedly drunk man who disrupted the pay-per-view showing of Manny Pacquiao’s fight at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday should feel lucky he got home with relatively no injury.

A certain Fernando Douzo allegedly grabbed the satellite cable box and likewise dislodged  the projector when he suddenly turned rowdy while Pacquiao was being shown answering questions in an interview shortly after his victory against Tim Bradley.

Carbon police, however, did not record the incident and did not anymore get Douzo’s personal details, like age and address, as there was no one available to file a formal complaint.

Danny Reyes, a security guard detailed at the coliseum, said the screen suddenly went blank because Douzo took the cable box and accidentally hit the projector.

Reyes said this angered the crowd, which included a boxing fan who allegedly hit  Douzo with a chair, while others also tried to mob him.

Interviewed by reporters, Douzo said he was suddenly hit by an unidentified person for unknown reasons.

Senior Police 1 Artemio Tumakay III of Carbon Police Station said a responding team composed of  PO2 Joel Perolino and PO1 Judita Abatay took Douzo into custody and brought him to the station for safekeeping.

Tumakay said that initial investigation showed Douzo drunk two glasses of an alcoholic  beverage while the show was ongoing.

Tumakay said Douzo was brought to Cebu City Medical Center for check-up but he showed no bruises despite being attacked.

The police, though, released Douzo at 2 p.m. yesterday to his wife, who begged that her husband would no longer undergo a liquor test, after no one showed up to complain.

Douzo’s wife allegedly  told the police that her husband only drinks occasionally; but when he does, he would allegedly go wild.

Tumakay said they were not able to get additional personal information from Douzo since the latter could not properly answer their questions

“Sige na man siya og siyagit. Usahay kanang makainom na ta, dili naman friendly if makig-istorya pa ta sa hubog (He keeps on yelling. Sometimes, we would come across as unfriendly if we insist on speaking with a drunk man),” he said.

Tumakay said he had instructed colleagues to go back to the coliseum area to check if anyone was interested to complain but no one was there anymore.  (FREEMAN)
