CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government is now working on the transfer of at least 150 families affected by fire in Warwick-Barracks, Barangay Ermita from its temporary relocation site at the North Reclamation Area to Barangay Lahug.
Lawyer Collin Rossell, chief of the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor, said the transfer is set to be completed within the month.
Rossell said a survey has been conducted on the families to determine who are qualified to avail of the permanent relocation while the relocation site in La Guerta, Lahug is being prepared.
“Ato na nang gi-process karon ang ilang pagbalhin, but di pa gyud na madalidali kay dili ingon ana kasayon, although dugay na nang usa ka-buwan para mabalhin na sila didto sa permanent relocation site nila,†said Rossell.
Rossell said that Block 27 at the NRA is just a temporary relocation site for victims of fire and other calamities in the city.
“Dili gyud to relocation site and it’s not also a feasible place to stay,†said Rossell.
The fire victims from Warwick- Barracks are complaining that the relocation site given to them does not have water supply.
They are asking the city government to continue providing them with relief assistance. The City Hall has stopped the distribution of relief goods since their relocation at the NRA.
“Looy jud kaayo ilang sitwasyon karon. Wala’y klaro ang mga saad sa gobiyerno ug wala’y budget,†said Perla Eraya, president of Warwick-Barracks Stall Owners and Livelihood Association, Inc.
Editha Alcordo, 46, a Carbon market vendor, said that they need food provision from the government.
