Female ex-con shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - A woman, reportedly an ex-convict, was shot dead in Toledo City Saturday evening.

Dionesia “Janet” Palao, resident of Barangay Dumlog of the said city was gunned down by an unknown assailant around 8:30 p.m.

Initial investigation disclosed the victim was last seen walking alone at a dimly lit side of the road when nearby residents allegedly heard gunfire shot and saw an unidentified person sped off on his motorcycle.

They later on found Palao lying lifeless with a gunshot wound on her head.

One empty shell apparently of .45 cal. pistol was recovered at the crime scene.

The police said the 44-year old victim was reported to have regular connections with known drug users in the area.

The Toledo Police Station is still conducting follow-up operations as of press time while the body of Palao was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes in Toledo City for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a driver and mechanic of SYS Printing Press died after he was shot by his colleague who works as a stay-in security guard of the company in Salvador St., Labangon, Cebu City last Saturday afternoon.

Rey Vaflor, 38, was shot by Felimon Luna, 49, around 4:30 p.m. following a heated verbal argument.

Luna works at SYS Printing Press under the L&G Security and Investigation Agency.

The police investigation showed that Luna allegedly pulled out his service firearm, a caliber .38 revolver, and shot the victim once.

Vaflor, who sustained a gunshot wound on his abdomen, was immediately rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for operation but was eventually pronounced dead.

The suspect was arrested by Leonides Borinaga, operations manager of the security agency, who then voluntarily surrendered to SPO1 Noel Caretero of the Punta Princesa Police Station.

Recovered at the crime scene were one empty shell and the service firearm of Luna with four live ammunitions.  (FREEMAN)
