Davide welcomes plantation relocations to Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III was delighted over reports that some major plantations in Mindanao are planning to move here.

Davide welcomed this development saying, it would mean jobs for the people and it is economically advantageous for the province.

â€œWe welcome that.  Maayo kaaayo na no, good for us (because) apart from generating employment for our constituents, it can also be economically advantageous for us. Kitay mo-benefit,” Davide said.

The governor said he was already informed that Dole Philippines, which owns a vast land of pineapple farms in Mindanao, is interested in planting pineapples in Cebu.

“Despite calamities that visited us, Cebu is still a place desired by businesses,” Davide said.

Dutch company Kennemer Foods International, Inc. (KFII) also expressed interest in Cebu to become its major supplier of cacao seeds.

The group representatives, who came to see Davide and other Capitol officials last month, said they wanted to utilize at least 20,000 hectares of land in Cebu for its cacao plantation where it will get its raw materials for its chocolates distributed all over the world.  (FREEMAN)
