CEBU, Philippines - A defective washing machine has zapped an ice plant worker to death at dawn yesterday in Cordova town.
Police identified the fatality as Gerard Catalaba, 26, resident of Sitio Camolinas, Barangay Poblacion, Cordova.
Police Officer 3 Erwin Gederio of Cordova Police Station said that Catalaba was seen by his coworker washing clothes using the washing machine.
Gederio said Catalaba was rushed by coworker Brandon Asentista to Mactan Doctors’ Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police investigators initially found that washing machine was defective and that the extension wire used by Catalaba has a portion that did not anymore have insulator.
The incident was the second this week. A couple was also electrocuted Friday after they accidentally touched an exposed extension wire hanging in their bathroom in Barangay Cangwayan, Madridejos.
The couple was identified as Primitiva and Bonifacio Santillan. Police said it was the woman who got herself electrocuted first and the husband tried to save her but also died in the process. (FREEMAN)
