CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old Indian landed in the hospital after he was robbed and shot by motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City last Friday night.
Police said the victim, Gurinder Pal Singh, is a moneylender and was driving home in a motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. after collecting payment when three men, also on board a motorcycle, waylaid him and announced a hold-up.
Singh reportedly refused to hand his collection over to the suspects and attempted to escape but he was shot in the back. The bullet exited the right side of his body.
After Singh fell to the ground, one of the suspects took his motorcycle but the vehicle was later found abandoned about 200 meters away from where Singh was robbed.
Police say the motorcycle was most likely abandoned because it ran out of gasoline.
The robbers has ta-ken away Singh’s wallet, which contained cash amounting to P10,000; a notebook containing the names of those who borrowed money from the victim; a driver’s license, and Singh’s passport.
Luckily, even after he was shot, Singh still managed to contact his friends and it was them who brought him to the hospital.
Police recovered an empty shell of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene. (FREEMAN)
