Stores, offices urged: Keep a bulb lit at night

CEBU, Philippines - To enhance security in Cebu, the Provincial Board (PB) has urged local government units (LGU) to require commercial stores and offices to have at least one light bulb turned on during the night.

“The simple expedient of turning just one light bulb on in front of the aforementioned premises at night has the potential of deterring mischief and crime thereby ensuring the safety and security to life and property far outweighing the financial cost inherent in having a single light bulb turned on overnight,” reads a portion of Resolution No. 514 that the Board approved during its regular session.

The resolution was sponsored by Board Member Miguel Antonio Magpale.

Magpale says a person who “does evil hates the light” and will “not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”

Following this line of thought, Magpale says one lighted electric bulb in business establishments and government offices “particularly those situated in highways” would go a long way.

Copies of the approved resolution will be furnished to Governor Hilario Davide III and to local government units under the provincial government for information and “ready reference”. (FREEMAN)
