CH to hire 230 more responders

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) will be hiring an additional 230 job order personnel to be deployed in all 80 barangays for the city’s disaster preparedness program.

This is to boost and strengthen its disaster rescue program considering that recently experienced major catastrophes, such as the 7.2-magnitude earthquake, super typhoon Yolanda, ship collision, among others, said Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Council.

Tumulak said there is a need for additional manpower for CCDRRMO for response, relief and mitigation operation in the city, as part of the campaign for the disaster preparedness and enhancement readiness in responding to emergencies.

“The existing personnel under the CCDRRMO is only limited as it cannot fully and effectively carry out its functions and duties prescribed under the RA 10121 otherwise known as Philippine Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010,” he said.

The City sets aside P19.48 million to compensate the 230 job order personnel to be charged against the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF) last year under the Trust Fund account.

In 2013, the LDRRMF has an allocation of P203.19 million with P114 million unexpended amount for the risk and disaster mitigation activities.  (FREEMAN)
