2 others arrested in Mandaue mall: Cop shoots ‘robber’

CEBU, Philippines - A suspected robber was shot after he attempted to shoot the responding policemen last Saturday afternoon.

Marloue Neri Soroño, 20, allegedly held-up the victim who was driving a company service vehicle at Highway Seno, Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.

Gilbert Bulado, 28, a resident of Subangdaku, Mandaue City, was waiting for the go signal of the traffic light when Soroño allegedly pointed his 38 cal. revolver and declared hold-up and carted away the cellular phone of the victim.

Bulado asked for the help of the PO1s Vimarl Evardo and Peter Martinez who were standing in a post near him and chased the suspect.

Soroño allegedly pointed his gun to the policemen and attempted to shoot but Evardo preempted the act by shooting the suspect’s butt.

Recovered from the suspect was a .38 cal. revolver loaded with four live ammunitions.

The suspect was brought to Mandaue City District Hospital for medical treatment.

Robbery with intimidation and violation of RA 8294 or illegal possession of firearms are set to be filed against Soroño.

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested and three cohorts remained at large for pickpocketing a woman shopping in a mall last Saturday afternoon in Mandaue City.

Victoria Bacalso and her nephew Jhon Ver dela Cruz, both of Tabunok, Talisay City were arrested while Delia Agapay, Zosimo Bacalso and Jupil Bacalso, all of San Isidro, Talisay City remained at large.

Victoria and Dela Cruz were caught in the act taking Liezel Son’s Samsung cellphone worth P7,000 and one crucifix pendant worth P3,150.

The arresting citizen who was there in the mall then brought the suspect in the police station.

The items were recovered from the suspects, Victoria and Dela Cruz, who will be charged for theft. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
