Rebuilding starts for Carbon Unit 2

Mechelle P. Florita/GMR - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After around 15 years when the Carbon Market Unit 2 was hit by fire, the Cebu City government has finally started its reconstruction.

Cebu City Engineer Jose Marie Poblete said the two-storey building costs P170 million.

He said Geety Construction and Realty Deve-lopment Corporation is the contractor of the building which will be completed at the end of next year.

“Pero og atong hangyoon ang contractor before sa December papaspasan lang makaya si-guro ni nila,” Poblete said.

He said they had changed the market’s original design, which costs P300.

“But this amount can already complete sa requirement sa manindahay. Ang katong design man gud sa una amo sad tong gi-reduced kay design man gud tong original nga naay murag classroom. Karon kay dili man gyud (approved) ni Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama nga magkuyog ang estudyante (and vendors),” he explained.

Poblete said the notice to proceed was issued last year but because of some circumstances such as the elections and contract revision, the project only started last January.

Presently, the contractors are working on the excavation of the footings.   (FREEMAN)
