CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old man was arrested after he robbed a 14-year-old boy of a silver necklace in San Jercasvil, Barangay Lahug last Friday afternoon.
The victim, Seon Paul Medina, told the police that the suspect, Juniel Quimco, pointed a knife at him and took his necklace with a cross pendant forcibly.
Medina immediately told his father about what happened and the latter accompanied him to the police to report the incident.
PO3 Diosdado Parejas and Restituto Rodriguez of the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) acted right away and still managed to arrest Quimco, confiscating from him the victim’s necklace, as well as the knife used to intimidate the child.
Quimco is temporarily detained at Police Station 4. He is facing charges for robbery in relation to RA 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse law.
On the same day, another 18-year-old man was arrested in downtown Cebu City also for robbery.
Eduardo Morales and Rusty Maglanat, both watchmen of Barangay Ermita, were patrolling their area when they caught John Philip Lagartija on the act of robbing a 78-year-old man at the corner of Manalili and Magallanes Streets.
The victim, Gabriel Jadraque Jr. of Opra Village, Brgy. Lower Kalunasan said he was walking at the corner when Lagartija declared a holdup, pointed a knife at him, and demanded that he take off his necklace.
It so happened that Morales and Maglanat were patrolling the area and arrested the suspect, taking back Jadraque’s gold necklace worth P30,000.
They also recovered the eight-inch kitchen knife that the suspect used, as well as a hand-rolled stick cigarette believed to be marijuana from the suspect’s pocket.
The suspect was brought to Police Station 5 while a criminal complaint for robbery and possession of dangerous drugs is being prepared against him. (FREEMAN)
