CEBU, Philippines - A suspected robber was shot dead by Special Weapons and Tactics operatives after he allegedly shot it out with responding lawmen past 2 p.m. yesterday.
Police identified the suspect as Ferdinand Pasahan, 21, of Barangay Lorega, Cebu City.
SPO4 Jayme Toring, chief investigator at the Theft and Robbery Section of the city police, said that they responded to a robbery alarm along Rahman Street, Barangay Zapatera.
While they were on their way, Toring said they spotted four men carrying a black garbage bag and when they approached them, the men then ran away.
Pasahan then allegedly engaged in a shootout with the responding SWAT operatives but was hit and he fell into the river. His other three companions escaped.
Toring said two speakers and a caliber .38 revolver were recovered by the police.
Estrella Pasahan, the suspect’s mother, said that her son was having lunch at their house when his friends called him.
Estrella said she later heard the news that his son was killed in a police shootout.
“Pinusilay? Nga wala man nay armas akong anak†she said.
Although admitting that her son was previously imprisoned, she said he was not notorious.
“Gabaan ra ang nagpusil anang akong anak, naay Ginoo nga nagtan-aw,†she added.
Police failed to arrest the three other men. (FREEMAN)
