Honest janitor gets casual job at provincial Capitol

Michael H. Braga/LPM - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - For this janitor at the Capitol, honesty indeed is the best policy.

Capitol outsourced employee Carlo Cena, 27, did not have a second thought in returning to the rightful owner the P2,000 cash he found at the Capitol compound.

Provincial government officials, during the flag raising ceremony yesterday morning, conferred to Cena a Certificate of Recognition and a copy of a resolution commending him for the honest deed.

Apart from the recognition, Provincial Legal Officer also announced that Cena could start rendering his service, this time, as a casual employee of the Capitol following recommendation from Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III.

Cena, a janitor at the Capitol under Perfect Clean outsourcing company, started working as casual employee yesterday.

He, however, said that he still has to wait where he would be assigned to.

"Di ko katuo ani nga (balita)... Pagtabang lang gyud atua. Sa tanan nakong buhaton, nag-agad ra ko sa Ginoo," he told reporters, saying that it has been his dream to have a permanent employment at the Capitol.

Cena found the money last January 22 and handed it to the Chief of Security office. It was claimed by its owner, Limson Manzad Jr, a member of  the Tactical Security and Detective Agency.

Cena was once a working student at the University of the Visayas-Pardo and took up Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.

But due to financial constraint, he said he stopped schooling in 2006. He was a second year student at that time.  (FREEMAN)
