Lapu drug suspect stays in jail, no bail

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended no bail against a man who was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-7 on Monday for selling illegal drugs.

Lawyer Bernard dela Cruz, agent  assigned to the case,  told  The FREEMAN that respondent Dominador Baguio Genobaga, 40, a resident of Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City chose not to answer yet the allegations filed against him during the inquest proceedings yesterday.

Assistant City Prosecutor Sheilamar Saliganan-Abadia elevated the case to the court while Genobaga is detained at the city jail.

Prior to the buy-bust operation last Monday, dela Cruz said they conducted surveillance against the respondent after they received information of the distribution and usage of shabu in Barangay Pajo.

NBI-7 agent Edgardo Baldemos served as the poseur buyer of eight sachets of shabu worth P2,500.

The respondent tried to evade arrest after the transaction was consummated but the NBI agents were able to arrest him.

Seized items include 146 sachets of dangerous drugs, drug paraphernalia and three firearms. The  Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervision (FESAGS)-7 certified that the respondent was not authorized to possess the guns.

Various charges for violations of the  anti-dangerous drugs law and illegal possession of firearms were filed against the respondent.— (FREEMAN)
