CEBU, Philippines - More than two months since super typhoon Yolanda wrecked havoc in northern Cebu, some barangays still do not have supply of electricity until now.
Department of Energy-7 director Antonio Labios said that as of January 8 there were 21 barangays in Bantayan Island which power supply is yet to be restored. He said only 25 of the 46 barangays in the island were restored of their electricity.
Labios said that most of the households in the island have not also restored their power supply. Bantayan Island comprises of the towns of Bantayan, Sta. Fe, and Madredijos and has a total household of 20,779. But, according to Labios, only 5,528 households or 26.60 percent has been energized.
“Kadtong mga household nga guba ilang mga balay di gyud siya matauran ug connection sa kuryente. These are unfit for connection, “ Labios explained.
Labios said that in Camotes Island only 29 out of 56 barangays were energized by the Camotes Electric Cooperative. Of the 16,167 households comprising the municipalities of Pilar, Tudela, San Francisco, and Poro only 10,195 households were restored of their electricity.
“For these areas, the reason why wala pa sila ma 100 percent energized because CELCO is still waiting for the supplies like posts and wires and other equipment to arrive,†Labios said.
For the municipalities that are within the franchise area of Cebu Electric Cooperative II, all the 323 barangays were already energized. Although, there are few households that need to be fixed first before they can be re-energized. (FREEMAN)
