CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government distributed yesterday cash incentives to all barangay officials of the city amounting to P2 million.

The cash incentive is part of the monthly allowance of the officials for the month of December.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said that the way to prevent exposure of officials to corrupt practices is to provide them means of comfort while doing their job.

"The incentive is to bring them focus instead of being tempted to be corrupt,"said Rama.

All barangay captains of the 80 barangays in the city received P5,000 each while councilors got P3, 000 and treasurers and secretaries were given P2, 000.

"You are practically not paying them, you are recognizing their brain and their heart," Rama expressed.

He also stressed that if the city government would have enough funds, the cash incentives for the officials and even for the senior citizens of Cebu City would be increased.

"If the business permits application will continue to grow and we can secure funds I assure you with an increase in financial aid," said Rama.

Yesterday, Persons With Disabilities (PWD) also claimed the remaining P2,000 cash incentive intended for Christmas. Other PWDs who have not acquired yet their remaining cash aid can still claim it today. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
