Two indicted in cop’s killing

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has indicted two men accused of conspiring in the killing PO1 Felicisimo Unabia, Jr. last month.

State Prosecutor Richard Abangan, Sr. said there was enough proof to charge Marvin Binoya, 31 and Juanito Linggatong, 38, formally in court for murder.

Both are residents of Barangay Cambuntan-Bolinawan, Carcar City.

“The uncontroverted evidence is airtight to hold the respondents on trial since they were positively identified as perpetrators of the crime. The evidence at hand is clear that they acted in unison to carry out their unit to kill the victim,” the resolution reads.

The incident happened around 8:40 a.m. on December 11, 2013.

Unabia was killed while waiting for a ride for Cebu City along the national highway of J.P. Rizal St., in Barangay Poblacion, Carcar City. He sustained gunshot wounds in the abdomen, chest and chin.

Binoya was an alleged driver of the gateway motorcycle while Linggatong was an alleged lookout. The alleged gunman, identified as Andoy Duterte, remains at large.

The three were identified through footages from the close-circuit camera installed at the area where the shooting happened.

It was the victim’s relatives, Eddie and Ricky, who went to the Carcar City Police Station the day after the incident to check the CCTV footage and identified Linggatong, Binoya and Duterte. The suspects are reportedly the victim’s neighbors.

Eddie and Ricky said they were at the fighting cock farm owned by the latter at the time of the incident. They reportedly heard a gunshot outside but when they rushed to the crime scene, the victim was already brought to the hospital. There, he was declared dead on arrival.  (FREEMAN)
