City fire victims to get cash, housing aid

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the financial aid for the fire victims in five barangays will soon be released through the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS).

The DSWS is still processing the P10,000 financial and housing assistance for the victims of fire in affected barangays.

“Tan-awon pa kay naa problema gamay, di man gyod na ma wala ang financial assistance kay naa man nay budget sa calamity fund but there is still some adjustment to be done,” Rama said, however he did not further elaborated these minor problems.

Apart from the cash aid, DSWS had already distributed food and disaster kit such as toiletries, inner garments, among others. The housing materials from the city government is yet to be released.

DSWS chief, Dr. Ester Concha, said that financial assistance and housing assistance will follow.

“Human na ta sa sa short-term help except for financial and housing kay gi-process pa,” said Concha.

The amount that would be given to the affected families in fire-hit areas will be taken from the calamity fund of P202 million that was appropriated for this year.

The affected barangays are Carreta, Tejero, Quiot, Kinasang-an and Pari-an.

Moreover, Rama has commended three barangay captains of the five areas struck by fire for supporting the re-blocking projects of the city.

These include Barangay Captains Eduardo Lauron of Carreta, Jeffrey Navarro of Kinasang-an, and Francis Espares of Quiot heeded to Rama’s order to implement re-blocking in their respective areas.

“I commended the three barangay captains because they are all towards agreeing for eventual improvement of the place that was being subjected to fire,” Rama said.

“The marching order of the office of the mayor is expeditiously and accelerated activities towards seeing matters for an improved situation when appropriate time will come,” Rama added.  (FREEMAN)
