Driver of truck in Barili crash posts P30K bail

CEBU, Philippines -  The driver of the 10-wheeler truck that figured in a vehicular accident last Saturday in Barili town which killed three people was released from detention yesterday after posting the recommended bail.

Adones Quiñanola, 37, a resident of Iloilo City posted P30,000 for his temporary liberty from a criminal case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.

Judge Leopoldo Cañete of Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Barili signed the release order.

PO2 Florentino Cuadero Jr. told The FREEMAN that the Information of the case was filed before the court on Monday and it was only yesterday the bail was being processed.

Quiñanola was earlier brought before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office at the Capitol Compound in Cebu City for an inquest proceeding.

During the inquest, he told state prosecutor Rustom Presas that he will waive his right to undergo the preliminary investigation and instead manifested to answer it before the court.

Presas then recommended for the filing of a case.

Last November 30, the 10-wheeler truck driven by Quiñanola reportedly lost its break and rammed a house, a store and an internet café along a national highway in Barili town killing three persons and injuring 17 others.

Witnesses, including family members of the fatalities, have attested in their statements that Quiñanola was the one driving the truck that killed Jennifer Martillan, 22, Anderson Vergara, 11 and John Michael Selitona, 11.  (FREEMAN)
