2 tension cracks found in Buhisan
CEBU, Philippines - An ocular inspection yesterday by Cebu City Government officials confirmed two tension cracks in Sitio Dulhugan, Barangay Buhisan and recommended for further assessment by concerned state agencies for more concrete action plan.
"Considering their present situation, the extent of their horizontal displacement and the length of the cracklines, we are of the opinion that landslide in the areas is very imminent which could be triggered by heavy downpour, flood and worse earthquakes which may occur anytime without advance notice," a report by Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chairman Councilor Dave Tumulak submitted to Mayor Michael Rama read.
Tumulak urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) particularly the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and the Office of the Civil Defense to conduct further technical assessment and evaluate the initial findings of the city officials to be able to formulate a long term solution.
Tumulak went to inspect Sitio Dulhugan yesterday morning together with Harold Alcontin of the Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) to conduct Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of the reported cracks. They were accompanied by outgoing barangay captain Ramil Rago.
As assessed by city authorities, both cracks measured .40 meters and are situated in lot no. 18591 owned by Seferina Godin, with elevation of 220 meters above sea level.
Furthermore, 45 families in Sitio Sandayong and Sitio Puti were recommended by Tumulak to seek temporary evacuation. (FREEMAN)
