‘Noisy’ neighbor kills girl for rebuking him

CEBU, Philippines - A fourth year college student died after a neighbor whom she reprimanded for being noisy Saturday night shot her in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Police identified the victim as Robelyn Binondo, 19, a fourth year commerce major of the University of Cebu-Main Campus.

The suspect, Reymund Quipte, 30, fled with the gun he used in killing Binondo.

The Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said the suspect shot the teenager at 9 p.m., shortly after the latter confronted him and his companions for being noisy.

Prior to the incident, Quipte and some male companions were having a drinking spree at a vegetable warehouse owned by the suspect’s father, which was adjacent to the victim’s house.

Binondo, who at the time was at the second floor of their house, looked over the window and reportedly admonished the suspect and his companions who were apparently partying on All Souls’ Day.

“Iyang gitambo sa ilang bintana unya iyang gibadlong, unya ang grupo, nakasuyop siguro, giatubang g’yud siya (She looked down from a window and called their attention. The group, which could already be high that time, faced her),” said PO1 Elmer Escultor of the Homicide Section.

Escultor said it appeared that Quipte, who was already drunk, told the victim to go down since Binondo went downstairs and faced him.

“Giti-onan siya sa armas. Pagti-on sa armas, niingon pa daw na siya ‘ayaw kuya’, then pusil dayon. (The victim had a gun pointed at her. When she saw the gun, the victim was able to beg don’t before she was shot),” Escultor said.

Binondo was hit in the chest, body, and right arm.

Despite the gunshot wounds she suffered, she still managed to run away but the suspect fired another shot, hitting her once more in the back.

The victim was rushed to the Miller Hospital but she no longer made it there alive.

The incident was witnessed by residents, including the suspect’s companions.

Mambaling Police failed to locate Quipte and instead held in custody at least five of his companions.

The five, however, were later released after the police established that it was really Quipte who shot and killed the college student.

The victim, who is the eldest among her siblings, was supposed to graduate March next year.

“Pwerteng hilak intawon sa amahan ana kay mo-graduate-tay na unta lagi karong (The father was in tears. The victim is supposed to already graduate this) March,” Escultor said.

The suspect is now being hunted by the police.

Escultor said they told Quipte’s father that a murder charge will be filed against his son.  (FREEMAN)
