Private hospital, vendors donate for CCMC rehab, rebuilding
CEBU, Philippines - A privately-owned Chong Hua Hospital also wants the earthquake damaged Cebu City Medical Center be rebuilt and rehabilitated by donating P1 million to the city government.
Lim Liu, the hospital’s chief executive officer and the president of Association Benevola de Cebu, Inc, in his letter addressed to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said that it is their social responsibility to serve Cebu especially in times of crisis.
“We are entrusting our donation to Cebu City Government because we believe and have confidence in your responsible stewardships. We cannot help but feel compelled by its socio-civic conscience to respond to this great need by offering cash donation, most especially to the community it serves,†the letter said.
Liu is hoping that the donation could help City government in rebuilding and rehabilitating the medical facility.
Also, the second largest city in San Diego and the sister’s city of Cebu, Chula Vista, also pledged to help rebuild the 52 years old CCMC.
Not only big institutions are extending help for CCMC but also ordinary citizens like market vendors.
All market vendors in Cebu City voluntarily initiated the P50 pesos daily contribution for CCMC after the City Market Office has re-launched the “Piso Mo Hospital Ko†campaign on Wednesday night.
“Sa atong ginagmay nga contribution atong paningkamotan maabot nato ang paninguha sa katukuran sa bag-ong CCMC, hinaot nga mogahin mo sa atong piso mo hospital ko,†Raquel Arce, market administrator said.
Also, the Cebu City’s Public Information Office is also partaking to help CCMC’s upliftment through its “barangay caravan†and Information Education Campaign (IEC) of the said measure which started on Wednesday.
PIO head, Carlo Dugaduga, said through the barangay caravan the city is reaching out to the grassroots.
“Gipaabot nato sa mga tawo ang campaign ug nalipay ta kay daghang mitabang. Kadtong mga trisikad, habal-habal, mamalitay sa merkado sa barangay mohatag sa ilang ginagmay na kita,†Dugaduga said.
The caravan targets to penetrate to 80 barangays and other strategic areas in the city and malls.
Rama has commended the efforts of everyone for voluntarily helping the city government to rebuild CCMC saying that any amount doesn’t matter as long as it is heartily given.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano already donated P100,000, SM Prime Holding Inc. Hans Sy had given P5 million and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also donated P500,000 for the construction of CCMC. (FREEMAN)
